A Seafood Meal Should Be Accompanied By Which Wine?

by Todd Gibson

You can just picture a nice glass of wine with dinner. Ah, the two just go together naturally. The question for most of us is not whether they go together, but what wine goes with what food. Stress no more. In this article, we answer the question.

The beauty of wine is those creating it are not afraid to experiment. Modern wines are actually a blend of reds and whites in the vast majority of cases. As such, making a hard decision on a red or white wine for the meal is a bit misplaced, but still worth a look.

Instead of memorizing which wine goes with which food, go by weight. A heavy meal should be accompanied by the strong taste of a red wine. A white would barely register with steak or any other red meat.

White wine is for the more delicate palate. That means it can easily be overcome by the strong flavors of other foods. As such, it is best when accompanying chicken and seafood. These foods would be overwhelmed by the strong taste of a red wine.

A special mention has to be made for blush wines. If you are having a meal with people who do not traditionally drink wine, a blush is a perfect choice. It is sweeter and softer, which makes it an easy drinking wine for any occasion.

Modern society is all about breaking trends these days. Heck, the Presidential election seems to be about who can be the bigger advocate for change. The same would appear to go with wine these days.

So, should you follow these rules like a good wine aficionado? Yes, if you life. You cannot go wrong with them when it comes to finding quality flavor matches. On the other hand, it is a free world. Knock yourself out with other matches if you like.

What about before and after dinner? Are there specialty wines for these periods? Yes! Champagne is perfect for both periods as are any sparkling wines. Many people, however, just go with the red or white they have planned for the evening.

Wine used to be very regimented. Now it is not. Drink whatever you prefer with your meal. For parties with a large number of guests, most will offer selections of both reds and whites so that people may choose on their own.
