Can you teach me any cooking tips?

cooking tips
Goergy Baby K asked:

Any tips on anything cooking related. I am being very broad with this question because I would like to learn anything: Stiring, frying, baking, microwaving, recipes, ANYTHING! I am about to go to college and would like to be able to make more than cereal. Thank you!

the simpler you make the food the better
ie: its all about the taste of actual food not about the spices

Buy a cookbook or some cooking magazines. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm serious here. The info you get from them will be 100x what you get here. Once you have one, all you do is follow the directions and before long-you are a cook!

you can always spice up the basics to make them better (i.e. add veggies to boxed mac and cheese)….it's simple and keeps things cheap and different!

You can make some good buffalo wings…

Need a pack of drummettes
oil
butter
vinegar
any hot sauce of your choice
and your choice of seasons

1.heat oil
2. season chicken
3. fry chicken
4.heat butter/ and hotsauce together
5. pour sauce in a plastic zip-loc bag or container, put fried chicken in and shake it so the sauce completley covers the chicken.

good side or some fries. Hope this is quick and easy

Best to start off with salads because you can't burn anything or set the house on fire :>)….then graduate yourself to sandwiches…from there get those instant meals in a boxes like "Stovetop" "Rice-A-Roni etc…

Obtain some basic learning to cook books out of the library. Invest in some good and useful cooking tools, pots and pans.

Practice makes perfect when cooking!
Since you are attending college you have more than enough fellow students "guinea pigs" to try out your cuisine on. If they survive the next day then you are doing just fine.

Here's my famous "Cinnamon Roll Recipe that always get raves, great to share and sell if you need some extra college $$$

Enjoy! Recipe follows….

Ingredients:
2 cups lukewarm water (slightly warm to the touch be careful hot water can kill your yeast)
2 tablespoons - Dry Yeast
1/3 cup of granulated white sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1/3 cup of oil (butter, margarine or olive oil)
3 3/4 cups of all purpose white flour (extra for dusting and rolling)
Cinnamon-Raisin Filling :
1 cup of raisins or your choice of dried fruit (to plump up the raisins/dried fruit place them in a bowl with water and microwave for 1-2 minutes and set aside), for the filling you will also need granualated white sugar and ground cinnamon
Icing: 1 cup of confectioner's powder sugar and a teaspoon or slightly more of milk, stir until silky smooth

Tip: You can make a proofing oven for the bread to rise in your microwave by placing a coffee mug with water in the microwave for 5 to 6 minutes. Your microwave oven will be moist and warm then you can place your bread dough in a bowl to rise. Leave the water filled mug in the oven.

Instructions:
In one large bowl put in your water, dry yeast, sugar, salt and oil. Stir ingredients and set aside to rest for 10-15 minutes (this will allow the dry yeast to dissolve and get to working with other ingredients).
Now add your flour 1 cup at a time and stir until almost smooth before you add another cup. Your dough will be sticky. Now place in your home-made microwave proofing oven or allow to rise and rest for about 30-45 minutes.
Once you have that completed then generously sprinkle your rolling board and pin with flour. Divide the dough into two parts.
Dust your dough with flour before making into a ball and roll it out to 1/4" thick. Roll into a rectangle. Spread melted butter/margarine over the entire surface. Generously sprinkle sugar and cinnamon. Next sprinkle your dried fruit over the surface. Take the rectangle of dough and roll it up. Cut slices from 3/4" or more. Place sliced cinnamon rolls into a well oiled or buttered pan and allow them to rise and rest for another 30-45 minutes (should double to triple in size).
Bake Cinnamon Rolls at 325 F degreed oven for about 15-20 minutes (my oven is electric and gets very hot). Be sure to check the bottom of the rolls and if they are golden brown on the bottom and crusty take the bread out of the oven.
Let the cinnamon rolls cool out of the oven for another 15 minutes and drizzle from a spoon the icing over the tops of the rolls.

I would buy the better homes and gardens new cookbook. It has tons of basics, lots of pictures and is just a great book for anyone starting off. You can get it almost anywhere, online, costco, target etc. You will use it as a reference for a long time.
