Deviled Mushroom Appetizer

Delightful Deviled Mushroom Appetizer

Your guest will be thrilled with this titillating, tempting and dare I say heavenly savory starter.

Mushrooms can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, from appetizers to sautéing them in butter with just a little salt and fresh crush garlic. Just about any type of mushroom you use will be delicious, but one of my favorites is the Portobello marinated in olive oil and balsamic vinegar then grilled to perfection.

Wash 12 large fresh mushrooms and trim off the tip of the stems. Remove the stems, chop and reserve.

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet. Add the mushroom caps and cook until tender, them remove the caps from the skillet.

Now add the chopped stems and 2 tablespoons of finely chopped onion and cook until tender.

Stir in one - 2 1/4 ounce can of deviled ham, 1 tablespoon of dry bread crumbs and a dash of pepper and fine herbs.

Place 1 tablespoon of mixture between 2 mushroom caps and thread on skewers. Repeat for the remaining caps.

Brush with melted butter. Broil over hot coals or gas grill for 2 to 3 minutes, turning often and brushing with more melted butter.

Makes 6 servings of Deviled Mushroom Appetizer.
