Fantastic Asparagus

by Kathy Bea

One of the most commonly consumed healthy vegetations around is the asparagus, and its benefits will do you a lot of good once you start incorporating it into your food, if you are attempting to loose weight, increase strength or even if you trying to eat healthy. It is simple to observe that with a little bit of work and research, the asparagus is more than only a side dish, it will benefit you a lot to try and transform it into a delicious main course.

As far as fruits and vegetables are concern, asparagus comes out tops in its benefits. Low in calories, a ten pounce serving of asparagus will supplement you with the much needed range of vitamins and minerals you need. It is also an amazing source of zinc, calcium, manganese, and copper. As an important source of folic acid, the asparagus is popular not only with people who needs to eat healthy but also amongst pregnant women.

Studies have linked asparagus to anticarcinogens , which is interesting because it helps avoid tumors and cancer in lab animals who were eating the vegetable by itself. Its relatively short shelf life, you will realize, is a sign of nutrient loss in the vegetable.

You can tell when its time to throw out the vegetable when its stems start to softens and its tips become wet and slimy. Fresh in a bunch or pickled to a yellow paleness, the multiple ways available of cooking asparagus will satisfy the fussiest eaters.

Think about making a cream of asparagus soup if you enjoy dairy. When used in soup, the asparagus will turn tastily soft while preserving its crunchiness, and it accompanies cheeses and creams fairly well due to its delightfully gentle flavor. You will also discover that you can add to its texture by adding nuts like crushed walnuts or cashews.

You can create a wonderfully light lunch or dinner by simply steaming the spears and pouring your preferred sauce over it. As mentioned earlier, a creamy white sauce, or something more sweet or savory like teriyaki sauce compliments it well.

This strong and lovely vegetable can do wonders for you if you would take some time to discover its wonders!
